Letter to All Cheerleaders

This will also be sent out by mail and email:

To ADM HS Cheerleaders:

CONGRATULATIONS!  We are so excited to have you as a part of the 2010-2011 cheerleading squad!  We can’t wait to get started, so we wanted to get information to you as soon as possible on a preseason meeting, ordering gear, and our camp.

There is a preseason meeting for all student athletes and their parents Sunday, August 8th at 7PM in the North Gym.  During this meeting parents from all sports will get a chance to hear athletic director, Doug Gee, speak about ADM Athletics as a whole, and then individual sports will break off and go over information specific to them.  During this meeting, you will receive physical forms.  Remember that a current physical must be turned in before you can participate in any camps or practices.  If you do not have a form from the previous school year on file, please see Amanda before attending a summer practice.

Order forms are attached detailing what will need to be purchased for the upcoming school year.  Please fill out the information and follow the instructions on the form.

We will be hosting our own camp this year at the high school.  Camp will run Monday, August 2nd through Friday, August 6th from 8:00AM- 12:00PM each day.  During the camp, squads will participate in bonding activities, learn cheers, chants, and dances, and work on stunting.  Camp is mandatory, therefore it is very important that all squad members attend. Our attendance policy will be in effect.

Practice for Fall squads will begin on August 9th.  Exact times and places will be set by the end of July.

Again, CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a part of the ADM HS Cheer Squad! We look forward to a great and successful season!

Feel free to contact us with any questions, and check out our blog www.admcheer.blogspot.com for more information!

Cheerleading Open Gyms:

Throughout the summer, we will be having several optional (yet STRONGLY encouraged) practices.  The purpose of these practices will be to get a head start on the season by focusing on staying in shape and to begin work on stunting and tumbling.  This is open to all of the squads, but highly recommended for the competition squad, as we would like to begin stunt sequences that will be used in our competition routine.

It is important to note that we will begin developing stunt groups early on in the summer and girls that are in attendance at practices will have priority.

The dates of the practices are as follows (these times and dates are subject to change, changes will be emailed and posted on the blog.):

· Monday June 21- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Tuesday June 22- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Thursday June 25- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Monday June 28- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Tuesday June 29- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Thursday July 1- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Tuesday July 6- 5:30PM- 7:30PM
· Thursday July 8- 5:30PM- 7:30PM

All Open Gyms will be held on the HS Track unless otherwise noted.

Weightlifting:

For the safety of all members on the squad, it is extremely important that each squad member begin weightlifting regularly over the summer.  Coaches are working on a program tailored specifically for cheerleaders and more information will be sent out with a time for a training session on how to weight lift properly.  There is a girls only weightlifting time at the high school every weekday from 9-10.  Girls should be going twice a week.  If this time does not work for you, please contact Amanda or Lisa.

Please know that our goal for weightlifting is not to create big muscles, but rather tone them instead. Weightlifting not only helps increase muscle strength and flexibility but also helps with stunting, posture, and metabolism. Also don’t forget, weight lifting will be mandatory once the school year begins!
